It?s shaping up to be a busy weekend for the Phillies.

The team has an agreement in place to sign lefthanded starter John Lannan, sources tell CSNPhilly.com. The Phils also have an agreement to sign righthanded reliever Mike Adams. Both deals are pending physical exams. The Adams deal was reported Friday night by KRIS TV in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Lannan, 28, is 42-52 with a 4.01 ERA in 134 big-league starts, all for the Washington Nationals. He has been a frequent opponent of the Phillies, going 3-13 with a 5.53 ERA in 19 starts against them. Lannan was 4-1 with a 4.13 ERA in six big-league starts in 2012. He spent most of the season in Triple A, the victim of a numbers crunch in the stacked Washington rotation.

CBSSports.com reported that Lannan will get a one-year deal worth $2.5 million. He fits the bill as the low-cost, back-end rotation starter the Phils had been looking for to replace Vance Worley, who was traded to Minnesota last week.

Lannan, of course, is known in Phillies circles for breaking Chase Utley?s hand with a pitch in 2007. Lannan was a rookie at the time.

The Phillies have had their eye on Adams for several years. They tried to trade for him when he was in San Diego in 2011. Now they have their man. Adams, who gets a two-year deal worth $12 million with an option for a third year, projects to fill the eighth-inning setup role that was a big problem for the Phils last year. The Phils may go slow with him in the early part of the season as he is recovering from an October surgical procedure to address Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. A full recovery is expected. Thoracic Outlet Syndrome can affect circulation and feeling in the fingers. Phils? reliever Antonio Bastardo has been troubled by it in the past. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter had surgery for the problem last season and recovered to pitch in the playoffs.

Adams had a 3.27 ERA in 61 games for the Texas Rangers in 2012. He was one of baseball?s best relievers in 2010 and 2011, recording a sub-2.00 ERA in more than 70 appearances in both seasons.

In a little over a week, the Phils have filled four needs. They traded for a centerfielder (Ben Revere) and a third baseman (Michael Young) and signed a reliever and a starter. GM Ruben Amaro?s biggest task still looms. He opened the offseason by saying he wanted to add a run-producing bat to the outfield and is still looking for one.
