K-State notes: Kansas State 81, Baylor 61 - KansasCity.com

?? Key play: Shane Southwell made back-to-back threes and sparked a K-State run at the end of the half.

?? Key stat: K-State made six of 12 three-pointers in the half.

Second Half

?? Key play: Angel Rodriguez hit a three to spark a 16-4 run that allowed K-State to pull away.

?? Key stat: K-State made 72.7 percent of its free throws in the second half.

Southwell sizzles

Shane Southwell is one of K-State?s best three-point shooters, but he made outside shots better than he has all season against Baylor.

Southwell scored all 18 of his points off three-pointers, going six of nine from behind the arc. Wildcat coach Bruce Weber said that opened up the game, and hurt Baylor?s zone defense.

??Omari Lawrence took one shot in 8 minutes of action, but Weber singled him out after the game as one of the Wildcats? top contributors off the bench.

Lawrence helped on both ends and made his only shot, a driving layup on a play on which he was fouled.

He then made the free throw for a traditional three-point play.

??K-State?s next game against West Virginia might not be the most exciting Big Monday game on the schedule, but it will be interesting to see former Kansas State coach Bob Huggins return to Bramlage Coliseum for the first time. ? To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Kansas State becoming a university, the Wildcats? cheerleaders and mascot wore special shirts and sang ?Happy Birthday? at halftime. ? Former K-State safety Tysyn Hartman, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, watched the game from a courtside seat.
